MUMBAI: The digital dust has finally settled, and India’s king of edgy comedy is ready to talk. In his brand-new stand-up special, Still Alive, YouTube sensation Samay Raina has pulled back the curtain on the controversy that effectively nuked the first season of his hit show, India’s Got Latent.
According to the comic, the viral moment that saw Ranveer Allahbadia, known to millions as BeerBiceps, ask a contestant a highly questionable “parental” riddle was not a one-off slip of the tongue. In fact, it was a recurring theme. Samay Raina revealed that during the 2025 filming session, his guest judge actually doubled down on the gag, repeating the controversial joke a staggering eight times.
While the internet was outraged by the single clip that eventually leaked, the production team was reportedly drowning in similar material. India’s got latent creator and comedian Samay Raina joked that he felt like a hygiene product during the editing process, claiming he managed to “kill 99 per cent of the germs” by cutting seven out of the eight attempts.
The aftermath of that “remaining 1%” was anything but funny at the time. The fallout in early 2025 led to a whirlwind of legal trouble, including multiple police reports and an intervention by the National Commission for Women. The show was eventually pulled from YouTube as the creators navigated a maze of public backlash and political scrutiny.
Reflecting on the chaos, Samay Raina admitted to feeling a sense of guilt over how the situation spiralled, particularly when his fellow creators and friends began receiving threats. He noted that while he was away, his colleagues were left to face the music with the authorities.
The special serves as a post-mortem for a show that was, at its peak, the most-watched unscripted series on Indian YouTube. Despite the past drama, the tone remains defiant. With Season 2 now on the horizon, it seems the lessons learned have not dampened the creator’s spirits, even if his guest list might be a little more carefully vetted this time around.
With the legal hurdles largely cleared and the “parents joke” firmly in the rearview mirror, fans are left wondering if the upcoming season will be just as provocative or if the team has finally developed a taste for safety. One thing is certain: in the world of internet comedy, even a total shutdown is just fuel for the next special.
