New Delhi: In a major political development, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation from the Council of Ministers, stepping down following weeks of escalating nationwide protests.
The move comes after intense pressure from student organizations, youth movements, notably the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), and opposition leaders. Demonstrators had been camping at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding accountability over alleged paper leaks and examination irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG entrance exams.
In a public letter addressed to his “young friends” and shared on social media, Pradhan confirmed that he sent his resignation directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Explaining his decision, he stated that he wished to prevent “anti-national forces” from exploiting the unrest and to ensure students can focus on their studies without getting caught up in legal or political standoffs.
“I have been dedicated to students, teachers, and education reform for more than four decades… Realizing the dreams of India’s young generation has been a moral commitment of all of us,” Pradhan wrote, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to serve.
