Apple’s new 14-inch laptop brings faster graphics, on-device AI and up to 24 hours of battery life

MUMBAI: Apple has put more power into its Pro lineup, and this time the upgrade comes with a sizeable price tag. The company has launched its new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip in India, with prices starting at Rs 2,39,900. Pre-orders open on October 28, while sales and deliveries begin on November 6.

The new MacBook Pro is aimed at users who need more from their laptops, particularly software developers, video editors and creative professionals. Its headline upgrades include a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, improved on-device artificial intelligence (AI) performance and up to 24 hours of battery life.

The design remains familiar. The real action is under the bonnet.

Apple MacBook Pro M6: What is new?

The M6 chip features a 12-core central processing unit (CPU) and a 12-core graphics processing unit (GPU), with Neural Accelerators built into every GPU core. According to Apple, the new chip delivers up to 30 per cent faster graphics performance and up to 25 per cent faster on-device AI performance compared with the M5.

The laptop also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, designed to accelerate AI-related tasks such as image generation, image enhancement and processing requests made to large language models. These capabilities allow supported workloads to run directly on the device, reducing reliance on cloud-based processing.

For developers, that could mean faster code compilation. For designers and video professionals, the improvements could help speed up demanding creative work. Apple also claims significant gains for users upgrading from older Intel-based Macs or machines powered by its M1 chip.

The MacBook Pro comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard, configurable up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB per second, helping the laptop handle demanding applications and larger projects.

Display, camera and connectivity

The 14-inch MacBook Pro features a Liquid Retina XDR display with peak HDR brightness of up to 1,600 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Buyers can also opt for a nano-texture display finish designed to reduce reflections and glare in bright working environments.

For video calls, the laptop gets a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View support. Audio is handled by a three-microphone array and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The port selection comprises three Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, an SDXC card slot, a MagSafe 3 charging connector and a headphone jack. The laptop also supports connections to up to two external displays.

The familiar aluminium enclosure returns in space black and silver. Apple says the casing uses 100 per cent recycled aluminium, while the product contains 45 per cent recycled material overall.

Battery life and software

Battery life is another major selling point. Apple claims the new MacBook Pro can last up to 24 hours on a charge, although actual performance will depend on usage and configuration.

The laptop supports fast charging, reaching up to 50 per cent battery capacity in around 30 minutes when paired with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C power adapter, such as Apple’s 96W adapter.

On the software front, the machine runs macOS 27 and supports Apple’s AI features, including Siri AI and Apple Intelligence tools. Apple says the combination of its new chip and software is designed to make everyday tasks and more demanding workloads faster and more responsive.

Apple MacBook Pro M6 price in India

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at Rs 2,39,900 in India. Eligible students and educators can buy it at a starting education price of Rs 2,27,900.

Pre-orders begin on October 28 through Apple’s India online store and the Apple Store app. The laptop will be available from November 6 at Apple Store locations and authorised resellers.

Apple is also offering separate power adapters, with the 96W adapter priced at Rs 8,900. Buyers should check the configuration and accessories included with their chosen model before placing an order.

At Rs 2.4 lakh, the new MacBook Pro is firmly in premium territory. Its appeal will depend on how much buyers value the extra processing power, AI capabilities and battery life. For professionals whose work demands that performance, the M6 could make a strong case. For everyone else, the price may be the biggest thing to process.
