Instagram has given its standalone editing app, Edits, a proper glow-up, rolling out a clutch of new features aimed at making content creation faster, sharper and considerably more global.
The headline addition is bilingual captions: creators can now have their captions automatically translated into a second language, instantly widening the audience a video can reach without any extra work. The feature currently covers 15 languages, English, Indonesian, Russian, Portuguese, Gujarati, Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Bengali, German, Italian, Thai, French, Japanese and Kannada, a spread that gives Indian creators particular reason to take note, with four home languages on the list.
Beyond captions, Edits is also getting a template overhaul. Creators can now build richer templates with overlay support, and lock specific clips in place so they stay put when someone else reuses the template, handy for anyone whose format keeps getting borrowed but rarely credited. Rounding things off is a set of seasonal sound effects, pitched at bringing what Instagram calls summer energy to videos, think water splashes, waves and breezy transitions.
The update lands as Instagram continues to position Edits as a serious rival to CapCut and other third-party editing apps, betting that creators will stick around if the tools keep pace with what they actually need. Early reaction has been warm: the announcement post has pulled in over 14,500 likes and 500-plus comments within hours, with one verified commenter simply gushing, “I absolutely LOVE edits.”
Translation, templates, transitions, Edits is stacking up the reasons to stay in the Instagram ecosystem rather than jumping ship. For creators chasing global reach without the grind of manual subtitling, the update couldn’t have dropped sooner.
