LinkedIn pilots AI labour marketplace offering up to $150 per hour

Platform lets users earn by training chatbots and stress-testing AI systems.

MUMBAI: LinkedIn is turning its users into AI trainers and some of them could earn as much as Rs 14,000 ($150) an hour for the job. The Microsoft-owned professional network is quietly piloting a new “AI labour marketplace” that allows members to make money by helping improve chatbots. According to a report by Business Insider, the platform has already listed more than a dozen roles for AI trainers, who are tasked with evaluating responses, flagging inaccuracies, and deliberately probing weaknesses in AI systems.

Pay varies widely depending on expertise. While some roles start at around Rs 3,700 ($40) per hour, the highest-paying position for a senior software engineer trainer can go up to Rs 14,000 ($150) per hour. Other openings, such as those for Excel specialists, finance professionals, nurses, and experts in Germanic and Nordic languages, offer up to Rs 9,300 ($100) per hour. “Red teaming” roles, where individuals try to expose flaws in AI, typically pay between Rs 3,700 and Rs 4,600 ($40–$50) per hour.

The feature is being rolled out gradually. Eligible users are seeing prompts inviting them to express interest. Applicants must verify their profile using a government ID, complete an AI-led interaction about their skills, and undertake project-specific tasks. LinkedIn uses profile data along with this screening powered by Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI services to match users with suitable assignments.

Once selected, trainers work on tasks such as rating chatbot responses, improving outputs, and identifying gaps in AI-generated content. The company has described these roles as part of one of the fastest-growing job categories, especially in the United States. For users in India, the experience is being introduced in phases.

This pilot reflects LinkedIn’s growing focus on AI-related opportunities as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the future of work. By turning everyday professionals into paid AI trainers, the platform is creating a new income stream while helping improve the quality and reliability of chatbots.

In a world where AI is rapidly changing how we work, LinkedIn is cleverly turning the tables letting ordinary users earn real money by teaching the machines how to get smarter. The future of work may not just be about finding jobs; it could soon include getting paid to train the robots that might one day compete for them.
