MUMBAI: AI is getting personal. A survey by Gleeden and Ipsos has found growing openness among users in India’s Tier-1 cities towards using artificial intelligence for sexual health, intimate questions, fantasies and virtual experiences.
The study, conducted earlier this year among 1,500 respondents across Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad, suggests that AI is moving beyond conventional uses such as work, entertainment and information and becoming a potential private space for conversations around intimacy and sexual wellbeing.
When it comes to sex education and sexual health, Bengaluru recorded the highest willingness to turn to AI, with 77 per cent of respondents saying they would certainly or probably use it for such information. Delhi followed at 75 per cent, Mumbai at 72 per cent and Hyderabad at 67 per cent.
Delhi led when the conversation shifted from information to intimate questions and sexual fantasies. Around 76 per cent of respondents in the capital said they would use AI to share sexual fantasies or ask intimate questions. Bengaluru followed at 67 per cent, Mumbai at 62 per cent and Hyderabad at 55 per cent.
AI also appears to be gaining ground as a tool for addressing sexual wellbeing concerns. About 67 per cent of Delhi respondents said they would use AI to address issues such as libido or lack of sexual satisfaction. The figure stood at 63 per cent in Mumbai, 58 per cent in Hyderabad and 57 per cent in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru, however, led when respondents were asked about using AI to improve erotic skills. Around 75 per cent expressed willingness to do so, followed by Delhi at 73 per cent, Mumbai at 65 per cent and Hyderabad at 59 per cent.
The survey also found interest in AI-enabled virtual sexual experiences. Hyderabad recorded the highest willingness to use AI for virtual experiences involving pornographic performers, at 55 per cent, followed by Delhi at 50 per cent, Bengaluru at 48 per cent and Mumbai at 44 per cent.
Delhi led in interest in celebrity avatars, with 53 per cent of respondents saying they would consider such experiences. Hyderabad followed at 50 per cent, Bengaluru at 45 per cent and Mumbai at 40 per cent.
There was also notable openness towards AI-generated experiences involving people known to the user. The figure was 57 per cent in Delhi, 52 per cent in Bengaluru, 50 per cent in Hyderabad and 42 per cent in Mumbai.
Bengaluru recorded the highest interest in sexual games involving a companion or adult chatbot, with 52 per cent of respondents saying they would consider such experiences. Delhi followed at 49 per cent, Hyderabad at 47 per cent and Mumbai at 35 per cent.
The survey also found that 58 per cent of Delhi respondents were open to using pornographic images or videos featuring people matching their preferences for sexual stimulation. The corresponding figures were 46 per cent in Hyderabad, 44 per cent in Mumbai and 41 per cent in Bengaluru.
Gleeden India country manager Sybil Shiddell said the findings point to AI becoming a private space where people can explore questions, curiosity and fantasies that they may not always feel comfortable discussing openly.
The findings show distinct patterns across the four cities. Delhi appears particularly receptive to intimate questions and fantasies, Bengaluru stands out for erotic exploration and sexual games, while Hyderabad shows stronger interest in virtual experiences. Mumbai, although comparatively more measured, still recorded substantial interest across several categories.
The survey suggests that for a section of India’s urban population, AI is evolving from a tool for information and productivity into a platform through which people are willing to explore aspects of intimacy and sexual wellbeing.
