ZEE5 bets on AI storytelling with six Historyverse originals

Streamer teams up with Collective Studios to reimagine Indian myths in seven languages

MUMBAI: Ancient legends are getting a digital reincarnation, with algorithms stepping into the storyteller’s seat. ZEE5 has joined hands with Collective Studios’ Historyverse to launch a slate of six AI-powered original titles inspired by Indian mythology, folklore, history and literary traditions, marking one of the streaming platform’s biggest pushes into AI-enabled storytelling.

The partnership aims to blend artificial intelligence with India’s rich cultural heritage to create visually immersive entertainment for audiences in India and overseas. The companies said AI will act as a creative enabler, while the narratives remain rooted in culturally significant stories.

The Historyverse Originals slate comprises six titles:

  • Garud – Ek Yodha Ki Gatha
  • Narmada Manasa Sundari – Shiv Parvati Ki Putriyan
  • Vikram Betal Aur Nar Pishachani
  • Shiv Sati Ki Ek Anant Prem Kahani
  • Param Sundari Chandrakanta Ki Amar Prem Katha
  • Bhakto Ke Bhagwan Tirupati Balaji

Drawing from mythology, folklore, legends and historical narratives, the projects seek to reinterpret familiar stories through AI-powered visuals and contemporary storytelling techniques aimed at both domestic and international audiences.

To maximise reach, all six originals will premiere in seven languages, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Bangla—reflecting the growing demand for multilingual streaming content.

Commenting on the collaboration, Tejkarran Singh Bajaj, Business Head, ZEE5 India, said the future of entertainment will be shaped not only by compelling stories but also by the technologies that bring them to life. He added that AI and emerging technologies have the potential to unlock new creative possibilities, accelerate innovation and deliver immersive content experiences at scale.

The companies said the initiative is designed to create a new storytelling ecosystem that combines cultural authenticity with technological innovation, while building intellectual properties capable of resonating with audiences beyond India.

Vijay Subramaniam, Founder and Group CEO of Collective Artists Network, said the partnership is focused on preserving timeless Indian stories while reimagining them for modern audiences through next-generation formats and AI-driven creative tools.

The announcement reflects a broader shift across the media and entertainment industry, where AI is increasingly being adopted to enhance content creation, visual production and storytelling. For ZEE5, the Historyverse collaboration signals a strategic effort to marry technology with tradition, turning India’s mythological and cultural legacy into a scalable global content franchise.

With six AI-powered originals, seven language releases and an ambition to build a larger mythology-led universe, ZEE5 is betting that the next chapter in Indian storytelling will be written as much by technology as by tradition.
