MUMBAI: Pipaltree.ai has snapped up Ajay Ravindran as vice president, brand intelligence, tasking him with dragging clients away from once-a-year brand studies and into the world of real-time signals. Ravindran arrives with two decades in brand marketing, strategy and media planning under his belt, and a CV that mixes agency-side strategy with in-house brand leadership.
He joins from FCB Ulka, where he was national planning director, having earlier headed brand marketing at Razorpay. Along the way he has worked the strategy end of blue-chip names including Unilever, Amul, Vodafone-Idea, ITC Foods, Britannia, 3M, Flipkart, Dell, Madura Garments, Dabur and Tanishq, picking up multiple effectiveness awards for his work on Flipkart and Tanishq.
Ravindran framed the move as a bet on a bigger idea: brand strategy today is episodic, backward-looking and stuck in annual cycles, while brand intelligence, as he sees it, is continuous, diagnostic and forward-facing. That shift, he said, is precisely what pulled him towards Pipaltree, and precisely why the task ahead is not a small one.
At Pipaltree, Ravindran will build and run a client success team charged with nudging, educating and converting client organisations into believers in what the company calls actionable brand intelligence, pushing them off periodic brand surveys and onto an always-on compass instead.
Navin Narayanan, co-founder of Pipaltree.ai, said actionable brand intelligence is a genuinely new idea and Pipaltree a first-of-its-kind product, one that demands organisational behaviour change rather than just another tool sitting on a shelf. Having sat on both the agency and client side of the table, Narayanan said, Ravindran was built for exactly this brief.
Ravindran himself likens brand thinking to detective work, a mystery novel written in real time, demanding curiosity, patience and a willingness to sit with a problem until its logic gives way. Whether Pipaltree can turn that philosophy into a genuine shift in how brands are run, rather than just another dashboard nobody opens, is the test now sitting squarely on his desk.
