AI platform Bharat Vistaar unveiled in Budget 2026

The multilingual tool will integrate Agri Stack and ICAR research to provide region-specific guidance and boost farmers’ productivity

NEW DELHI: FM Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday announced Bharat Vistaar, a multilingual AI-powered platform aimed at transforming the way farmers access agricultural knowledge. The system will fuse the government’s Agri Stack portal with ICAR’s research-backed package of practices, delivering verified, region-specific advisories in multiple Indian languages through a single interface.

“Bharat Vistaar – Virtually Integrated System to Access Agricultural Resources – will enhance farm productivity, support better decision-making, and reduce risk by offering customised advisory,” Sitharaman said.

The AI platform will contextualise crop, soil, weather and farm-practice data, making scientific inputs actionable at the farm level. By consolidating digital farmer records and ICAR recommendations, the tool is designed to improve adoption of best practices across India’s diverse agro-climatic zones.

The finance minister also outlined initiatives to diversify farm outputs and boost rural incomes. High-value crops such as coconut, sandalwood, cocoa and cashew will be supported in coastal regions, agar in the Northeast, and almonds, walnuts and pine nuts in hilly areas.

“India is the world’s largest producer of coconuts, supporting 30 million people, including 10 million farmers. A new coconut promotion scheme will enhance productivity through tree replacement and modern interventions,”Sitharaman added.

With Bharat Vistaar, India is deploying AI to put science at farmers’ fingertips, modernise agriculture, and turn data into tangible gains, making farming smarter, faster and more profitable.
