Anthropic could begin IPO marketing in October, Reuters reports

Potential $2 trillion listing may come days before US midterm elections

CALIFORNIA: Anthropic’s much-anticipated public debut may be edging closer, but not quite as quickly as some investors had expected.

Anthropic is expected to begin marketing its initial public offering in mid-October at the earliest and could complete the listing days before the US midterm elections in November, according to a Reuters report citing people familiar with the matter.

The AI company had previously been expected to make its IPO prospectus public as early as next week. That timeline has now shifted, with the filing not expected until late September, according to the report. The timing remains subject to change as Anthropic works through the final stages of the offering.

The delay pushes back what some investors have speculated could become a $2 trillion listing, potentially making it one of the largest IPOs ever attempted and a major test of public-market appetite for the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence sector.

As part of preparations for the offering, Anthropic is looking to finalise a $15 billion revolving credit facility. Analysts, including those from banks involved in the financing, are then expected to meet with the company. Bloomberg had earlier reported that Anthropic was in discussions to expand the facility to $15 billion.

Companies typically leave several weeks between analyst meetings and the public release of an IPO prospectus. Anthropic could have a shorter gap because analysts are already familiar with the company, according to the Reuters report.

The potential listing is among the most closely watched IPOs in the market, as investors seek exposure to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence. Anthropic’s offering could coincide with potential listings from other major AI companies, including OpenAI.

The IPO would also follow a strong year for technology and AI-related public markets. SpaceX went public in June at a record $1.77 trillion valuation, highlighting the scale of investor interest in high-growth technology companies.

Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup are among the banks working with Anthropic on the IPO.

If the current timeline holds, Anthropic’s listing could become one of the defining public-market events of the year’s final quarter, putting investor confidence in the economics and long-term growth of AI companies firmly in the spotlight.
